Toshiba NB100 con HSPA integrato

Arriverà in Europa per il primo quadrimestre del 2009

Con un comunicato stampa pubblicato dalla sezione europea Toshiba, la casa ha annunciato la disponibilità per il primo quadrimestre del 2009 di una particolare versione del netbook NB100 dotata di modulo HSPA integrato.

La scelta è quasi obbligata vista la crescita del settore e viste le stime di vendita che prevedono circa 1.1 miliardi di utenti HSPA entro il 2015. Assieme all’Eee PC 901Go e all’Aspire One A110, il Toshiba NB100 con 3G integrato è attualmente uno dei pochi 8.9 pollici ad adottare tale tecnologia, ma sarà da vedere con quale modalità e a quale prezzo verrà offerto ai clienti.

Interessante notare come Toshiba indichi questa soluzione come migliore rispetto a quella che prevede un modem USB o l’utilizzo di uno Smartphone, soprattutto per via dei consumi ridotti e della migliore capacità delle antenne integrate di ricevere il segnale.

Toshiba expands embedded Mobile Broadband to its Consumer product range
NB100 and Satellite A350 now available with embedded Mobile Broadband

Neuss, Germany, 9th February 2009 – Toshiba Computer Systems Division further strengthens its connectivity strategy by announcing the integration of Mobile Broadband into its consumer product range, starting with the Toshiba NB100 and the Satellite A350. The updated laptops with embedded mobile broadband will be available during the first quarter of 2009 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“Customers that are using their laptops on the move expect much more than just a device that is portable, durable and secure. Today, mobility is intimately linked with mobile connectivity,” says Thomas Teckentrup, General Manager Toshiba Computer Systems Division Europe. “In keeping with the increasing demand for embedded mobile broadband from both professionals and consumers that we’re starting to see, we’re now offering embedded mobile broadband across all segments of our laptop portfolio.”

According to research firm Analysys Mason¹ the number of HSPA customers worldwide will increase from 61 million at the end of 2008 to 1.1 billion at the end of 2015.

A laptop with embedded Mobile Broadband connectivity offers superior benefits to users compared to one using an external modem. First, it is convenient as it requires no additional wired or wireless connection between laptop and modem. From a technical point of view, an embedded module provides superior signal propagation as it uses specially designed antennas that are integrated into the laptop cover – best positioned to send and receive the best possible signal. Furthermore, integration of the cellular interface into the laptop power management ensures lower energy consumption compared to an externally connected USB-modem or smartphone.

Users of Toshiba business laptops will benefit from Ericsson’s latest wireless broadband technologies (HSPA) allowing data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps in the downlink and up to 2.0 Mbps in the uplink.
