Lenovo pensa ad un netbook Thinkpad?

I piani di Lenovo per il settore netbook non si limitano al lancio del 12.1 pollici IdeaPad S20.

Da quel che riporta APC Magazine infatti, la casa avrebbe avviato una ricerca per capire se un netbook della linea ThinkPad possa interessare gli utenti business. Fino ad adesso il contributo di Lenovo al settore è dato dagli IdeaPad S9 ed S10 (e dalle varianti Educational) rispettivamente con form factor da 8.9 e 10 pollici.

“It’s an area we’re exploring, but I can’t comment one way or the other. Watch this space, that’s all I can say.”

La linea Thinkpad è quella che da anni accompagna gli utenti business e rappresenta spesso i modelli top-gamma della casa; per questo, prima di creare un netbook con questo brand, Lenovo vuol cercare di capire a fondo le richieste del settore.

“How do we make sure the value proposition between netbooks and notebooks is clearly delineated?  That’s been a source of much debate within Lenovo. Intel has helped us out with that. They’re pretty adamant that the Atom processor is designed to so some thing very well, but if you want full functionality you need to go to a Core processor or (even) a Celeron Mobile for that… although the problem with Celeron is that it’s like a dirty word in the industry.”

Al momento solo HP fornisce netbook dedicati alle aziende, con la linea Mini 2140 che però non offre molto di più rispetto ai modelli consumer (protezione per i danni al disco e “scocca” lega di magnesio esclusi).

Nella stessa intervista Matthew Kohut di Lenovo ha confermato le voci che volevano il sistema Instant On (basato su Splashtop) preinstallato anche nel prossimo IdeaPad S20:

“Windows takes 1-2 minutes to boot on a netbook. Instant On lets you boot in five seconds and be productive in five seconds.”

Il 12.1 pollici è previsto per Maggio ed avrà processore Atom N280, chipset Intel GN40 e modulo 3G integrato (opzionale).
