Danilo, Friday October 10 2008 hours 17:18 Ideapad S10: Replace Hard Disk and Memory Ram

While it is a device which is currently only prebooked here in Italy, we propose today a guide to replace the hard disk and the bench of Ram Lenovo Ideapad S10, in reality it is a 'very simple operation, given the easy accessibility components through the room for expansion, but for the less experienced, however this is a step by step guide.

First, to perform the upgrade, you need a Phillips screwdriver and course components to be updated, that is a Hard Disk with 2.5-inch SATA interface and a memory module SO-DIMM DDR2 667 Mhz.

NB: As regards Ram memory, there is a small note to make: the device is shipped with a module of 512 MB soldered on the Mother Board, accompanied by an expansion slot (which will be added another 512 MB module if buy the version with 1 GB), in which slot you can add benches 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB which, added to 512 MB soldered, should carry the maximum Ram memory to 2.5 GB.

However, we must inform you that the little Ideapad will support the use of up to 2 GB of memory.

First Steps

1) Place the device face down "so as to observe its fund, you will find before you a large panel anchored with two screws.

2) Even if the photo is not shown, to secure every transaction that involves contact with internal components is a good idea to disconnect the battery.

3) Remove the two screws that lock the panel and gently sollevatelo.

You are now faced with something like this:

As you can see on the left houses the hard disk drive, protected by a sort of grid, and the right form of RAM.

Replacing the hard disk

NB: Before dell'HD to replace with a larger sample, we recommend that you create an integrated dell'HD not lose your personal information and not be forced to reinstall the OS, you could do this for use programs like gparted (which is actually a very small distro GNU / Linux Live Party), which allow you to copy the entire partition dell'HD originating on a temporary and then copy it to your new HD, even allowing you to resize the patizione based on size of new hard disk.

1) Turn Gently slide the hard disk to the left in order to disconnect from the SATA Netbook and allow the hooks of the metal cage to escape by driving side.

Removed the Hard Disk have this result.

2) Now you must remove the old HD from the cage metalliaca which is designed to fasten into the Netbook; to do this unscrewed the 4 screws that anchor bolts are located on both sides.

3) Place the cage on the new Hard Disk (in this case, a Western Digital 250 GB, which will replace the old 80 GB), taking care to make sure it is placed in the right way. Following ancoratela back with 4 screws laterli.

4) Put the hard disk back into place, being careful to enter the teeth of the metal cage inside the guides of homes and arrange to slip the disc in order to insert it firmly into the slot SATA.

Replacing the RAM

1) You should find yourself dealing with a completely empty slot, so if it were not paraded with caution the litmus Ram preinstalled. Take the form of RAM you want to install and posizionaltelo into, taking care to put in the good way.

In particular you can see the connector module is divided into two sezoni a longer and shorter than the other, in the case of our Ideapad the shorter should be facing downwards.

2) Do pressure on memory module, fecendo to lock securely inside the slot.

The metal contacts should disappear almost entirely, getting a result like this:

And finally ...

At this point the upgrade can be considered concluded. We will then reposition the panel initially removed and anchor it with 2 screws; reinstated after the battery into place to proceed with the final stage, verification.

To check if everything is successful start the device and as soon as the screen with the Lenovo brand, press F2, and thus enter the system BIOS and you can check on the HD mounted and the amount of Ram installed.
